===2007-08-05: DirList Server 2.9===
Version 2.9 is [https://www.moonlightdesign.org/dirlist/download/dirlist/2.9/ now available] and includes important fixes to address [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-site_scripting cross-site scripting] (XSS) vulnerabilities. All users of DirList are advised to upgrade their servers to this latest version.

===2004-05-28: DirList Server 2.8===
Version 2.8 is out after a long security audit and now uses stronger safe-string functions when platform support exists at compile-time. No remote buffer overflows were found, though an issue with use of excessive CPU and memory resources through a high number of searches in a single query was uncovered and addressed. As an extra feature, index files created on one CPU endian type can now be read directly on a different CPU endian computer. 64-bit CPUs are now supported, too. Please see the [https://www.moonlightdesign.org/dirlist/svn/tags/dirlist-2.9/ChangeLog change log] for more details.
==Web-based demo==
*The [https://www.moonlightdesign.org/cgi-bin/dirlist2.cgi search page] will let you search the DirList index on this server
**Note that this page can be customized to whatever is needed; it's a HTML file. The one on this server is a very simple example
**Try searching for "ste" or "Steven" to get my record
*Anyone can edit the data in this server's DirList index (see below), so please do not count on the accuracy of the search results
To try out DirList, follow these instructions:
*[http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=8557 Download] the DirList2ODBC package and install both the ODBC driver and the Access database as an Administrative user
**If there ever is a future version, it will let you set up ODBC as a regular, restricted user instead of requiring administrative access. It will also use standard MSI installer instead of my [https://www.moonlightdesign.org/CatSetup old Win16 CatSetup installer]
*[https://www.moonlightdesign.org/dirlist/doc/client/odbc/dsn.htm Set up a DSN] named "users" (without the quotes) with the following settings:

===2007-08-05: DirList Server 2.9===
Version 2.9 is [http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=8557 now available] and includes important fixes to address [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-site_scripting cross-site scripting] (XSS) vulnerabilities. All users of DirList are advised to upgrade their servers to this latest version.

===2004-05-28: DirList Server 2.8===
Please see the [http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=226268 change log] for more details.
*DirList implements a client-server architecture with the [https://www.moonlightdesign.org/dirlist/doc/server/ server] running on demand with each request via the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Gateway_Interface common gateway interface (CGI)]
*Clients, such as [https://www.moonlightdesign.org/dirlist/doc/client/ DirList2ODBC], speak with the [https://www.moonlightdesign.org/dirlist/doc/server/ DirList Server] through a web server using regular HTTP GET and POST messages
**This software predates the popularity of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOAP SOAP] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xml-rpc XML-RPC]
It will also use standard MSI installer instead of my old Win16 CatSetup installer

===2007-08-04: DirList Server 2.9===
Version 2.9 is presently in development to address some minor but important issues. More detail will be posted soon.

===2004-05-28: DirList Server 2.8===
Please see the [http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=226268 change log] for more details.
**If there ever is a future version, it will let you set up ODBC as a regular, restricted user instead of requiring administrative access. It will also use standard MSI installer instead of my old Win16 CatSetup installer
===2007-08-04: DirList Server 2.9===
Version 2.9 is presently in development to address some minor but important issues. More detail will be posted soon.

===2004-05-28: DirList Server 2.8===
Please see the [http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=226268 change log] for more details.
==News==
Please see the [http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=226268 change log] for more details.
